PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Use:
Product is intended for interior or exterior non-structural lightweight veneer facing on stucco, metal or frame constructions for architectural aesthetic improvements, suitable for new construction and remodeling applications.

Limitations:

  • Should not be assumed to improve load-bearing capacity to walls.
  • Can be used in below water applications.
  • Can be used in salt and most chemical applications without structural weaknesses occurring in the agatized sandstone material

Composition and Finish:

Carved Stone International’s products are 100% real stone. Mostly we offer a variety of extremely hard sandstones that have been proven as durable tile material in interior and exterior applications through out America for over thirty years. The finish is generally smooth unless otherwise requested. And all pattern carving is hand carved by hammer and chisel to the clients requested finish.

No chemicals are used in the strengthening of the stone. No binders or sealers are used, as is so often the case with softer stones.

Colors available:

Our most popular colors match the well-known Arizona flagstone colors of tan and gold. This similarity in color allows for a thematic non-clashing approach between the buildings and landscape of the architectural ornamentation and the landscaping  natural  flagstone paving:

  • Off-white, extremely hard carbonized limestone with a light yellow-brown hue.
  • Pink.
  • Light pink.
  • Beige pink.
  • Light tan with white lines.
  • Rainbow lined accented with pink and purple lines. Please see the photos in the CD to view the different varieties of rainbow sandstone.
  • Grey with lines.
  • Red with occasional lines or spots.

More colors are being sought as we develop a relationship with different quarries in India.

All sandstone, unless by request, can be stained any variety of other colors.

The stain has to be durable for outside applications but is best done to expose existing lines that naturally occur in the stone in order to accent the natural uniqueness of quarried rock.

Available Designs:

This is our unique difference.

We carve what you want to the size that you want.

Some designs are too difficult to be carved in a small piece but we have over 8,000 designs on our catalog as a custom commission company with our own factory in India. We can duplicate from photos and drawings provided to us. An extra charge is applied for design work drawings or use of photoworkshop by our design dept.

We produce the requirements of our clients for unique designs.

Our Carved Stone products are hand carved to your specific drawings, and are available in any number of shapes, sizes, or we can help you specify your plans to our skill range of production.

Product Line:

We have over 8000 designs on our CD catalog any of which can be modified to suit your project requirements.

TECHNICAL DATA

Fire Hazard:

Flame spread rate is 0
Smoke development rate is 0

Shear Strength:

Our carved sandstone was applied to a concrete block wall with a standard 3/8” thick bed of Portland mortar. Shear Strength exceeded 260p.s.i.

Compressive strength:

Average of 3100 p.s.i

Weight:

Agatized sandstone dry weight approximately 10lbs per square foot of one-inch thick tile.

Water Absorption:

Unless sealed with a silicon, acrylic or polyester polyurethane sealer. Our stone has a porosity factor of slow absorption. In very damp climates lichen or mould can grow on it if unsealed. Many landscape and building architects like to use this characteristic.

Our sandstone can be used in freezing, monsoon and arid conditions and last many hundreds of years as shown by 2000 year old temples in India that still show the stone holding exceptional carving detail.

Freeze/Thaw Characteristics:

Because the stone is a homogenous material without geological structural changes apart for color veins from microscopic color mineralization lines, and has a low 4%to 6% air entrapment, it is proven extremely resistant to frost and ice damage.

INSTALLATION

Please view the instructional illustrations (BELOW) to explain the detailed application procedures.

Carved Stone can be predrilled for screw on applications, affixed with blind pins and/or affixed with a Portland cement based thin set to a prepared surface. In adverse site conditions where there’s a potential or single applications failure, use blind pins or predrilling with screws. Interior applications can be achieved with a variety of suitable construction adhesives. This product has a highly naturally bonded silicon surface and does not separate from tube adhesives as say a cantera would with its loose calcium surface. A builder with knowledge of tile setting or a masonry contractor is the usual installers. Cutting of the material is similar to cement and masonry blades will work well.

AVAILABILITY

Our Factory is in Rajastan in North India.

We can ship anywhere our carriers deliver, which is most of the world. With smaller simple projects delivery time to our warehouse should take 10 to 14 weeks. With bigger projects this must be extended. Due to the irregular nature of custom commissions and the fact that we don’t use generic moulds but rely on the pre-screened highly skilled sculptors and artisans, it is advisable to keep us well informed of timing and size of upcoming projects so that we can adjust our factory studio schedules to your time requirements.

Our head office warehouse (23,000 sq.ft.) deals with architectural commission projects.

WARRANTY

Carved Stone International warrants that all carved stone items are of merchantable quality and will be replaced if defective. The client must inform the manufacturer within ten days of delivery. Whenever possible, product should be inspected at warehouse before shipment because of excessive freight costs. Carved stone does not cover any  shipping costs in the USA if merchandise is returned for a full refund. No other warranties implied or expressed are applicable.

MAINTENANCE & CLEANING

We water blast most of our items when they arrive from India on account of the fuming process the quarantine process uses. We use a high-pressure 2500psi water blaster with no detriment to the very hard stone. Ph balanced chemical cleaners are fine but so are acid washes. Stronger acids if left to dry on the stone can create a slight yellowing stain but this can be cleaned off. Thus our stone is chemically inert, unlike most cements, calcium rich limestones or canters.

Prepare surface, if necessary, apply bonding agent to wall. Create a mortar mix of 3 parts masonry sand, one part Portland masonry cement, mixing water and bonding agent admixture. Cover substrate and adjoining Carved Stone surface fully. Press piece into mortar bed. Joints should be tooled and finished as mortar hardens. Clean exposed masonry splashes and smears.

For colored grout, rake joints to base of piece and around perimenter. Dampen joints after mortar hardens. Colored pointing mortar and grout may be applied.

Prepare surface. Use construction adhesive to piece and press into place. Pieces that have been predrilled can be screwed or anchored into place.

Allow 1/4” joint between adjacent Carved Stone pieces for grout. Grout should contain elastometric additive.
